News & Resources for the Indiana Tourism Industry

Party Like You Mean It

We know how to throw a party! We’ve been doing it since 1809. From May through December, group friendly events abound. There are home tours, music events, garden tours, holiday events, arts/crafts shows, 5Ks, car shows, food & wine tastings, boat races – just to name a few. How about a free concert on Lanier Mansion lawn or Music in the Park around the Broadway Fountain?
Our largest events include RiverRoots Music and Folk Arts Festival, Madison Regatta, Madison Ribberfest BBQ & Blues, Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art, Soup, Stew, Chili & Brew and Nights Before Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes.
Can there be too much shopping?
Madison is known for its 133 block downtown National Historic Landmark District filled with specialty shops, galleries, restaurants and coffee shops. One of the things that makes our shopping district unique is that all the shops are locally owned and operated. This means that you get a personal shopping experience with unbeatable hospitality. You can find handmade items, beautiful Madison made bath & body products, an Indiana Artisan chocolatier, home décor, antiques and more. There are clothing boutiques for kids and ladies - all in our downtown. Our beautiful downtown is easy to stroll with benches and coffee shops when you need to take a break. We offer a 10% off Shopping Card to participating merchants for your group. You can spend the whole day shopping or add some shopping time to your itinerary.
Culinary Caper
Start with a wine & cheese selection at Rembrandt’s Gallery & Wine bar. Head to Key West Shrimp House for the award winning chowder or salad bar including their secret recipe mashed potato salad & pickled watermelon rind - all prepared inhouse. Your dinner is served in a private dining room at the Red Pepper Deli. This café/deli is known for their signature sandwiches, homemade soups and salads. Try the Vampire Slayer if you dare! For dessert, choose a made-from-scratch cannoli stuffed with locally crafted ice cream, a freshly baked gourmet cupcake or a variety of frozen yogurt flavors with a gazillion topping choices.
No Whining on the Indiana Wine Trail
A visit to Madison wouldn’t be complete without visiting our wineries, better yet, discover the Indiana Wine Trail. Three of the wineries on the Indiana Wine Trail call Madison home, but you can begin your tour at any of the six southeastern Indiana wineries. Let us customize a tour for your group beginning and ending at locations that suit your needs. Due to the distance between some of the wineries, we suggest you make this an overnight tour, so you can enjoy the ambience of each of the stops without feeling rushed. Transportation is not provided for this tour, guides are available for an additional fee. Souvenir glass given at the completion of the trail.
