Here’s a sample of the kinds of questions that will test your skills. Did you know Madison was a bustling river port in the mid-1800s? Find the Port of Madison sign. Find Little Jimmy, a local icon of the Fairplay Fire Company No. 1 since the 1880s. Hollywood comes to Madison, find the commemorative star for the 50th anniversary of the filming of Some Came Running in Madison.
Hiking & Biking
Are you up for a challenge? Madison’s popular Heritage Trail offers a safe and challenging pathway from Madison’s downtown historic district to the hilltop. Start with some simple yoga stretches and a little trail history. Portions of your hike will parallel one of the steepest railroad inclines in the country (5.89%). Traverse a manmade stone arch bridge over Crooked Creek to the crest of the hill for great views overlooking the Ohio River. This trek can be customized from a leisurely walk to a mud run complete with obstacles! Biking groups can choose from a variety of rides: easy to difficult, downtown or in the country. Our county tours feature historic tidbits along the way. Do it yourself or hire a Madison Area Bike Club Guide.
